An unser Statt ist kommen

Jesus Christ, God's son,
has come in our place
and has put aside our sins,
and in this way from death has taken
all his rights and his power,
here remains nothing but death's outward form
it has lost its sting.

Gesù Cristo, Figlio di Dio,
è venuto presso di noi
ed ha allontanato il peccato,
privando così la morte
di tutti i suoi diritti e i suoi poteri,
della morte resta solo un simulacro,
essa ha perso il suo pungiglione.

"Jesus Christus, Gottes Sohn" è la terza strofa, affidata al tenore, nella cantata " Christ lag in Todes Banden", BWV 4, detta anche "Easter Cantata", composta da Johann Sebastian Bach nel 1707. La cantata, come è frequente nella musica di Bach, è un riadattamento dell'omonimo inno pasquale attribuito a Martin Lutero del 1524. Il testo è anch'esso riadattato dalla sequenza latina "Victimae paschali laudes".
